Your Recovery

Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

In the PACU, you will be closely monitored for 30 to 90 minutes, although due to the effects of anesthesia your length of stay may seem shorter.

YOU are our first priority in providing individualized care. In compliance with the HIPAA law, we protect the privacy of every patient coming out of surgery. Therefore, your family and friends will not be permitted in the PACU. You will be reunited with your family as soon as you are ready to go home.

During your stay in the recovery room the nurses will be:

  • Monitoring vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature and oxygenation saturation);
  • Assessing pain level and medicating appropriately;
  • Monitoring for nausea and medicating appropriately.
  • Ice chips may be offered;
  • Observing the surgical site; and
  • Completing the doctor's orders.
