Trauma Center

Mercy Gilbert Medical Center submitted intentions to the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) – Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma Systems to seek trauma designation. Mercy Gilbert aims to become a Level III trauma facility.

Mercy Gilbert’s Level III status will offer the community a higher level of emergent care for patients needing stabilization and assessment for potential transfer to a Level I or II facility.

As a Level III trauma center, Mercy Gilbert will join three other hospitals in the state that currently have provisional status to provide assessment, resuscitation, stabilization, and emergency surgery.

After our attestations are submitted in July 2013, ADHS will grant provisional status to begin operating as a trauma center.  Once Mercy Gilbert meets the requirements under the provisional status, we will be eligible for a verification survey by the American College of Surgeons. We expect to receive the official designation during the summer of 2014.

“The addition of a Level 1 and 3 Trauma Centers in the East Valley translates to a giant step toward the fast and effective treatment of the seriously injured that fire and rescue agencies encounter daily. Time and distance have been critical factors in the mortal outcome of crisis and placing Trauma Centers that can deliver definitive care here in the East Valley will improve victim’s chances of survival. “
