SHAPE Centers of Excellence
Mercy Gilbert Medical Center is one of the first hospitals to be accepted by J & J Medical and the
Society for Heart Attack Prevention and Eradication (SHAPE)
into the Centers of Excellence program for their commitment to improving patient outcomes through early detection and prevention of coronary artery disease (CAD).
CAD is the number one cause of death in the United States. Mercy Gilbert Medical Center wants to ensure that the best prevention and detection programs are available to the community, and illustrate our commitment by participating in the SHAPE program.
The primary goal of SHAPE is to reduce the number of heart attacks and sudden cardiac death through education. The Centers of Excellence program aims to reduce the impact of chronic disease through early detection and to increase the use of coronary calcium scoring through appropriate patient selection by referring doctors. Some components of the program include onsite training of hospital leadership, the medical education team and administrators.
Mercy Gilbert offers the calcium scoring exam, which is not currently covered by most insurance companies, for $90. The test includes all technical, medical and professional interpretation charges, as well as a report of your heart disease risk.
