During Your Stay
What to Bring
Please bring only the minimum essentials necessary. If you are anticipating an overnight stay you may bring personal toilet articles and containers for storing health aids (eye glasses, contact lenses, hearing devices, etc.). Personal articles may be stored in the drawer of your bedside table. Limit your extra clothing to a comfortable dressing gown or pajamas, a robe and slippers.
Please bring your insurance card and/or insurance billing information. Your Advanced Directive for Healthcare can be included in your medical record, if you wish.
What Not To Bring
Please do not bring actual medications to the hospital unless instructed to do so by your physician. All medications required to treat your illness will be carefully dispensed by the hospital pharmacists and administered by nurses. Please bring a list of medications you are presently taking. With permission from your doctor, however, you may bring items such as nitroglycerin, eye drops and antacids. Due to fire and safety regulation, this hospital prohibits patients and their visitors from bringing any electrical appliances into the hospital including electrically powered radios, televisions, razors and hair dryers.
What to Expect
You will be asked to sign the required Condition of Admission form. Parents or legal guardians must sign for children under 18 years old.
You will receive information regarding your rights and responsibilities as a patient.
If you have questions regarding payment, we have financial advisors on-site to assist you.
Public Safety
Public Safety Officers are on duty at all times. They are available to provide escorts to vehicles on request. If you ever feel unsafe or see something suspicious, alert an employee and Public Safety will be contacted.
Social Services/Discharge Planning
Social and personal problems can be handled with the help of Social Services. They can be contacted at 480.728.7046.
Environment/Housekeeping Services
The Environmental Services staff is responsible for providing a clean and antiseptic environment for patients. All patient care areas are cleaned daily or as needed.
Gift Shop
Cards, flowers, candy, plush toys, baby items, slippers, sundries and much more are sold in the Gift Shop. All proceeds support hospital programs. The Gift Shop is located on the first floor, adjacent to the cafeteria. Gift Shop hours vary.
Mail, Newspapers, Flowers and Balloons
Mail may be addressed to you at the hospital address. Mail is delivered daily except on weekends. Any mail delivered after your discharge will be forwarded to your home address. Please encourage use of your full name to assure accurate delivery.
Newspapers are available in the Gift Shop or may be delivered to your room upon request. Flowers are delivered to patient rooms as soon as they arrive.
Flowers are not allowed in the intensive care units. They will be sent home with your family/friend or held for you until you are transferred to a nursing unit.
Latex allergies can pose a serious health risk for our patients, employees and volunteers. For everyone's safety, we kindly ask that your visitors do not bring latex balloons into the hospital.
Telephone
Patient rooms can be reached from outside of the hospital by dialing the ten-digit telephone number assigned to the room or by calling the hospital switchboard at 480.728.8000.
To reach the switchboard while in the hospital, dial "0".
To place a local call from your room: dial 9, wait for a dial tone; dial the number.
To place a long distance call from your room: an outside operator will assist you. Dial 9-0-Area Code-Number. These calls must be collect or billed to your credit card or to your home number.
Inside of hospital: You may dial the extension number directly.
Smoking
Mercy Gilbert Medical Center is a tobacco free campus. Please refrain from consuming any tobacco products anywhere on the campus, including the parking areas. If you or a loved one would like to quit smoking, please contact the Arizona Smokers Helpline at 1.800.556.6222 or visit www.ashline.org.
Meals
Mercy Gilbert Regional Medical Center provides nutrition assessment, evaluation, counseling and personalized diet instructions for patients. Patient meals are served daily during the following times:
Breakfast: 7:15 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
Lunch: 11:15 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Dinner: 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Visitors may call the Dietary Department at 480.728.7257 to order a guest tray that will be delivered to the patient's room.
Valuables
You are advised against bringing a large amount of money or other valuables to the hospital. Mercy Gilbert Medical Center cannot assume responsibility for loss of any items while at the hospital. Please bring your insurance cards with you, however, as they are necessary for billing purposes.
Interpreters
If you need an interpreter, please ask your nurse or other hospital personnel. Sign language interpreters, if required, are also available upon request.
Spiritual Care Services
The healing of the whole person physically, psychologically and spiritually is important to us. A chaplain is available to minister to any spiritual concerns you may have.
A chaplain may be contacted 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist patients and families with the following:
- Coping with fears and concerns
- Listening and praying
- Contacting the patient's faith group or support system
- Facilitating the grieving process
- Consultations about Advance Directives (living will and medical power of attorney)
- Support during consultations about end-of-life-issues
- Ethical consultations
Notify your nurse if you wish to talk with the chaplain or dial "0" and ask for Chaplain Services. You may also contact the chaplain directly at 480.728.8330. Our chapel is open to you 24 hours a day.

Additional information is available upon request. Simply ask your nurse to notify Social Services or Spiritual Care Services to assist you with this document. Visiting Hours
We understand that you want to be able to visit your loved ones when it's convenient for you. Therefore, the hospital is open to visitors 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
If you are visiting after 8:00 p.m., please enter through the Emergency Room entrance.

ATM is located in the cafeteria on the first floor.
